The Rehab Process
If you’ve never been a patient at a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, the process can seem confusing. There’s a lot to consider and many details to take care of, but Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center makes it easy for you. Here’s a simple, easy-to-understand breakdown of how our process works.
1. I’m scheduled for surgery. What do I need to do?
The sooner you can start planning your recovery, the more prepared you’ll be. We recommend that you call to schedule a consultation and tour as soon as you know you’ll need surgery. Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center can help answer all your questions and make sure everything is taken care of—with pre-surgery fitness, insurance and financial planning, and other details of your stay. You’ll be pre-registered, everything will be in place for your stay, and you’ll know exactly what to expect, allowing you to focus on what matters most—getting back home.
2. Before your surgery
Before your surgery date, make sure you’re packed and ready for your rehabilitation stay (if you’ll be receiving inpatient treatment). Items you’ll need include:
- Sturdy, non-skid shoes suitable for exercise and therapy sessions.
- Clothes that are easy to get on and off, including comfortable shorts or slacks for therapy and a warm top in case you get chilled.
- Sleepwear
- Personal items and toiletries, including toothbrush, soap, hairbrush, makeup, etc.
- Cell phone for long-distance calls. (There’s a phone in each room and local calls are free.)
3. After your surgery
After surgery, make sure your social worker, case manager, or discharge planner knows you will be coming to Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for your recovery and give the hospital permission to send your medical records. The hospital will coordinate your transportation to Brandon Oaks, and we’ll be waiting for you when you arrive with everything ready for your stay.
4. Your rehabilitation care
When you arrive at Brandon Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, we’ll be here to welcome you and help you get comfortable. Once you’re settled in, you’ll begin by meeting with our admissions department. They’ll make sure that all your paperwork is in order, answer any questions you may have, and get you checked in with an admissions contract. Next, you’ll meet with our nurses and therapists—these are the people you’ll be working with most during your stay. They’ll start by thoroughly evaluating your condition. Next, we’ll work with you to create your custom recovery plan and develop a schedule for your therapy sessions. While you’re here, our entire staff will be focused on making sure you’re comfortable and well cared for. Our nursing staff will monitor your medical needs and medications. Our dietary staff will keep you well-nourished with our exclusive 5-star dining and delicious, healthy menus tailored for your optimum recovery. When you’re not in therapy, our activities staff will make sure you’ve got plenty of enjoyable things to do, with a wide range of entertainment that will make you feel right at home and help you enjoy your time here.
5. Preparing to go home
As you regain strength and health, and become ready to return home, our therapy department will schedule a home visit to make sure you’ll be safe at home. Our social services department will work with you to make sure that any follow-up needs are addressed and that you have everything ready for your return home. Lastly, we’ll make arrangements with family for transportation back to your home.
If Home Health has been recommended, Brandon Oaks at Home offers Home Health services to continue your recovery at home.
